Back in college, Taco Quest, Augmented Fragments, Key of X, Rockstar Ihafky (he’s so cool, he doesn’t get a link), and I worked on a weird hobby of mine called Fantasy Congress. Instead of being a coach choosing football players in fantasy football, you would be a political operative who would choose Members of Congress. Based on what legislators actually do (just like in fantasy football), you would see if you’re a better political operative than others.
Our little hobby was written up in the New York Times, CNN, LA Times, etc., and we started receiving calls from media companies and non-profits in DC to do partnerships. Startups are like college supposedly, and we liked college, so we chose to take the plunge.
Our little group became Publi.us (using the same name as the author of the Federalist Papers), and we worked on a number of projects focused on changing the way people consumed politics, including Politico’s Kingmaker (think March Madness for the Primaries) and PoliQuiz, which you can play right here:
